Honeymoon Guideline & Checklist

After all the planning, stressing, and sweating, the honeymoon is the time that is just for you and your new spouse.  At times during the wedding planning, the honeymoon will seem like the finish linethe light at the end of the very long tunnel.  No family drama, no fights over flatware, just you and your mate enjoying each other and recovering from the wedding day.  For some people, its the very best part of the wedding! To that end, it helps to have some guidance in making sure you are on top of everything in planning your honeymoon.

Unless you are planning a very complicated honeymoon is an ultra-exclusive location, you usually dont have to book anything a year out.  Instead, you and your fiancé should be discussing different ideas for the honeymoon.  Do you want to do something low-key and relaxing? Do you want something with a lot of adventure and excitement? Or do you want a little of both?  Far away or close by?  Discuss the amount of time you have for the actual honeymoon.  This will actually make some of the decisions for you.  If you have less than a week for your honeymoon, you probably dont want to fly half-way across the world.  If you want spa treatments and relaxation, dont plan a river rafting adventure for your honeymoon.

Once you have narrowed down a few choices, start looking into the feasibility.  Be practicalcan you afford the honeymoon?  Do you have the time or the inclination for the honeymoon?  Be honest with yourself and your fiancé, and try to please each other.  Traditionally, the groom plans the honeymoon.  And since the groom doesnt usually have as much work to do planning the wedding, this seems pretty fair.  But planning the honeymoon doesnt mean ignoring what your fiancé would want.  So be considerate of each other and your wants and needs.

Once you have determined the honeymoon of your choicetropical paradise or winter wonderland or safari or trekking through the mountainsdo some serious research about what you will need to take this honeymoon.  Dont forget to consider health conditions as well as political climate of the location you are picking.  You dont want to honeymoon in the middle of a civil war, even if they have the best scuba diving on the planet.  Check on the necessities for making the trip: passports, visas, physicals, immunization shots, and equipment.  Also, start looking into airfare, ground/water transportation, accommodations, etc.  Dont forget to check the weather at the time of year you plan on going.  A Caribbean vacation is great when its not hurricane season.

Likewise for South East Asia.  Europe is often cold and rainy starting as early as September.  Plan accordingly.

A good site to check out is the Centers for Disease Control (government website) which should give you information on the immunizations required for different countries.
