What is a Copyright Registration?

By | December 6, 2007

A Copyright Registration is the process that protects the author of an original work and gives them exclusive rights to their work and prevents others from using the work without permission. It makes the copyright claim public. Although actual registration is not required, a registration with the copyright office might be required before the holder of the copyright can bring a successful action in court for infringement. Copyright registrations can be filed for literary works, performing arts and visual arts.
