Registration is optional. Wisconsin
does not have a fictitious name
statute, but has a tradename statute.
A trade name is essentially a business
name other than the owner’s name. The
applicant must register with the Secretary
of State. (Section 132.01).
Registration fee: $15.00
Term of registration: Twenty years.

Name requirements: The trade name
may not consist of any flag, coat of
arms, or insignia of the United States, a
foreign nation, other state of the Union,
or any municipality. (Section 132.01).
Registration application requirements:
The sworn statement must include the
name(s) of the applicant, type of business
conducted, and the residence or
business address of the applicant. The
applicant must claim the sole right
to use of the trade name. (Section
132.01).
