Credit Inquiry Information and Removal Letters

Obtaining credit reports under false pretenses is a criminal act. The fair credit reporting act (FCRA) prohibits access and use of such information without a “permissible purpose.”

If you discover that your credit files have been accessed without a permissible purpose or illegally ran, you can enforce the prohibition through the civil justice system because the FCRA allows you to sue and recover your actual damages, punitive damages if appropriate, plus attorney fees and court costs.

This packet contains two letters:

(1) a letter demanding a company to explain their purpose for accessing your credit files, and informing the company that if they do not provide a permissible purpose they are liable for $1,000.00 or actual damages (whichever is greater); and

(2) a letter to a credit reporting agency demanding them to remove an unauthorized credit inquiry.
